| Sermon Summary by PKD Lee |
The passage makes two statements about Jesus and two statements about Mary.
About Jesus, it says that His name shall be “JESUS” and He will reign over Israel.
About Mary it says ‘she has found favour with God’ and she accepted the commission of God by saying ‘Let it be according to Thy will.
From this, we learn that Jesus or Yahweh saves was the name or title for Jesus at birth and not some afterthought given after His death and resurrection. Jesus came to be a sacrifice for our sins according to the Old Testament Law. It was not an accident but a well-planned arrival to this world.
The second statement says that He is king. Often, we see Jesus as Redeemer but not as King. A king rules and Jesus rules over our lives. Jesus is not just a Santa Claus carrying gifts for us, but a King who demands total obedience to His will. Jesus cannot be taken lightly.
In being a part of God’s plan of redemption, Mary had found favour with God. We too are a part of God’s plan for redemption as brought out in the Great Commission and also as brought out in the statement in John 17:18, even as the father has sent Me I have sent you.
We are sent with the same mission as Jesus and are a part of His redemption plan. Are we willing to accept this role? Can we say with Mary, in the second statement about her, Let it be to me according to Your will?
